Hi, I’m Scott Branney and I still round out the Branney clan Members racing for RPM. This will be my second season racing for RPM, and if it’s anything like the first, the coming year should be an absolute blast! While “family” is truly an often over-used description, I can’t think of a better word to describe our experience with RPM. We’ve raced, trained, moved dirt, worked on bikes, cooked up some epic meals, and just gotten to hang out with some of the best people going. While the goal at RPM is to always strive to become a better racer, the experiences, the memories, and the friendships from this past year are something that will be with me (and my family) for a lifetime. I’m doing all I can to get ready for the coming season, because if we have even half as much fun as we did this last season, we’re all in for a hell of a ride! Nickname: Doc DOB: 7-10-1959 (I’m an old man…..) Class: Not quite running with the big dogs yet, but stepping up to Sport Men 40+ Goals for the 2008 season: Stay injury-free, occasionally get enough air under my tires so the boys will stop giving me grief, and to try and have even more fun than the ’07 season. Number of years riding: 2 years of Mtn. States Cup under my belt, not nearly enough before that. First bike: Schwinn Sting-Ray with a banana seat and 3-speed stick shift and front and rear brakes (circa 1966). Promptly got it up to about mach I at the local hill and slammed the front brake on, donating a couple teeth and a chunk of my upper lip to the pavement. My first mountain bike was a Trek 8000, great ride, even snuck it down the ’94 downhill at Vail trying to keep up with the boys. Injuries: The usual pedal scarred shins and a collection of road rash. Right Collarbone 2 years ago @ Snowmass, elbow fracture this year… What’s your Inspiration: This hasn’t changed. I get to hang out and ride in some of the most beautiful spots around. I get to Share this with my wife and kids. I get to watch my “boys”, which now includes everybody from 10-year old Matt through the eternally young KD, rip down courses and jump stuff that gives me butterflies, even when I’m just watching. Getting to learn from all the people who’ve been kind enough to help teach me and the boys (Thanks!). Favorite Quote: Still #1: “Impossible is a big word thrown around by small men and women who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary” – Muhammad Ali Probably a tie for #2: “Dream as of you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today.” – James Dean “Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure….than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy or suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory or defeat.” – Theodore Roosevelt (Teddy was the man!) What’s in my iPod: I still have the iPod that the boys love to hate, 30 gigs of blues (mostly electric), old rock, some 80’s and 90’s, a little jazz, a little metal, and now the UCI Random Start cadence (over and over and over…) |
