Dusty up top, muddy at the bottom. Those were the conditions for the innaugural Triple DHip DH Stage Race at SolVista Bike Park. With three separate DH tracks to negotiate and a team eating contest to slay, RPM showed up full-force and ready to throw down.
Young gun Wyatt Freier finished 5th overall and collected a check for $5.40. Matt Branney went 2:54 in final stage, good enough for a 5th place. Sean Geisler squeaked out a sub 3-minute run on the last stage at 2:58, then claimed all the ladie's hearts as the hero of the eating contest.
Andy Proctor placed first in Cat 1 Junior Men. After falling in mud the first race and hitting a tree, he came back to slay the next 2 events. In his own words:

I guess you could say the SolVista Triple DHip was a rare race for that mountain, or any mountain for that matter, because of the massively ridiculous amounts of mud that we were trying to ride through. The muddiest race was the first one, on a course called Stranger, where the mud was hub deep for what seemed like a quarter of the course, and then after that the next two courses had a little less mud as we went on. And not only was is muddy, but it was hot and sunny all weekend too. Then after the second day there was an eating contest where the RPM team of four people me, Matt, Trevor, and Sean (who was our anchor man) dominated, with Sean finishing it by eating a full ice cream scoop of wasabi, with wasabi powder mixed into it! Over all it was just a great fun race I ended up going from last in the overall after the first race by 15 seconds, to first overall for the weekend by winning the second two races. |
It was a great weekend, and a sweet event. We're fortunate to have so much killer stuff in Colorado! Until the next update, keep the rubber side down and the corners drifting... Check out more photos from the race by clicking here to go to the gallery! |
