After two and a half hours on a plane, 120 miles in a car I arrived in the amazing town of Port Angeles. My dad and I showed up Wednesday night in our pimped out white mini van, got checked in, built my bike, and went right to sleep. Thursday practice started at about noon so I got a late start on the day showing up at about 10:30-11:00. Right when we showed up I was able to meet another local Junior-X rider, made friends and he showed me the course real quick. Friday went real smooth too. I met a girl that rides in expert and rode with her a lot of the day. Even with a late start on the day I ended up with about 4 hours of practice for Friday. That night I got to wander around the beach and ride my bike around the piers. This had to be one of the most relaxing places ever. Ended up seeing Tom, Sam, and Dustin by the end of the night too. Saturday I had practice for about 2 hours then Junior-X had seeding at 4:30. I rode like it was practice. Not pinning it but putting some effort into it. I ended up running a 2:53, putting me in 9th. Later that night I got a good meal with a bunch of buddies and got a good night sleep for race day. Sunday came out to be a nice day even after a night of raining. One practice run and about 4 hours to sit and wait for my run. My race run wasn’t the best run I ever had but it was pretty awesome to go down with so many people lining the course all the way down. I ended up 16th overall. I didn’t feel to bad about it just because of all the fast riders that were there. For my first big national race I walked away with my head up and feeling pretty good. |
