By Evan ChuteSunday over the weekend Steph and I headed out to the Buffalo Creek trail system to do a little volunteer trail work with the COMBA group. Volunteering is rad as hell, enhances your street cred with the ladies, makes you feel good about stuff, and let's face it: when you can volunteer helping to create or do something that you love, it's just plain awesome! So Steph and I helped start construction on a NEW MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL that is going to feature pretty gnarly features, drops, jumps, wall rides, and steeps... all on public land. This is a huge step forward for Colorado trails, and more "extreme" type mountain biking in general. I'm stoked to be part of it! I didn't get any photos, but my friend Nick did, so I am poaching his Photobucket account to give you guys the goods. This is the scene before tools touched the ground. This is Taylor's "flex" stance. Good Finger to Bad Finger Connection, Day 1... the trail is taking shape and starting to look like... well, a trail! Steepass rock roll in to a hard right on Bad Finger. You could barely walk down this thing, can't wait to ride it! The Chute - Day 1 The Chute - Day 2... see how much has changed? Loads of work went into these features! That's me standing on the right, scoping out this hairball line down the rock face. After you leave the dirt, it's about a 10' rock roll in at a ball-scraping-the-rear-tire sort of pitch, with a sizeable rock ledge to avoid smashing your face on just at the exit. Then you get to careen down the dirt below through smaller rock ledges and whatnottery, ending with a smallish 3' rock drop to exit the Chute. Sweet action! Alright you fools, get out there and get INVOLVED! It doesn't have to be mountain bike trails or anything, just volunteer doing something you care about. The rewards are endless, I promise. |
